A message for Easter

30/03/2026

With the Easter break approaching, this time of year provides an opportunity to recognise the wide range of cultural and faith‑based observances marked within the University community, highlighting the diversity and shared values that contribute to our collective learning environment.

In the above video message, Reverend Dr Sarah Schofield shares a few words on the significance of Easter in the Christian faith. In the next video, students Polina and Shrada share how they’ve been spreading kindness and goodwill across campus.

Easter this year will be celebrated on Sunday 5 April by Catholic and Protestant communities, and on Sunday 12 April by Orthodox Christians. While practices differ across denominations and cultures, Easter is preceded by Holy Week - one of the most meaningful periods in the Christian calendar. It begins with Palm Sunday, commemorating Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem; continues with Maundy Thursday, marking the Last Supper; and Good Friday, a solemn day reflecting on the crucifixion. This journey culminates in Easter Sunday, celebrated as a time of hope, renewal and resurrection. Many communities observe the season through services, candlelight vigils, shared meals, charitable giving and symbols such as eggs or spring flowers, representing new life.

Together, these traditions invite reflection on themes of compassion, sacrifice, renewal and community—values that resonate far beyond religious observance and enrich the experience of all who study and work here.
